These instructions are provided to ensure the safety of the client and efficacy of the treatment. It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that these directions are followed strictly and that they inform the therapist of any changes to their medical conditions or medications before each treatment begins.

“Treatment/s”: henceforth refers to any procedure or product used during the procedure, activity and/ or product purchased in relation to The Laser Loft (Pty) LTD and Dermetone CS (Pty) LTD.

 

Treatment Contraindications

Clients who have experienced the following conditions in the last 3-6 months should consult their doctor before treatment:

  • Been on any light sensitizing medications.
  • Experienced and/ or have been treated for acne.
  • Active herpes labialis (fever blisters/ cold sores). Oral herpes labialis may be at increased risk for viral reactivation after treatment.
  • Other local infection within the treatment area.
  • Predisposed to keloids (raised scars).
  • Immunosuppression.
  • Conditions including, but not limited to: skin cancer, radiation, blood thinning medication, hepatitis, fever blisters, herpes, contagious/ non-contagious skin conditions, sunburns/ tan, auto-immune deficiency, immune deficiency, clotting abnormalities, burns, Botulinum toxin injection (Botox), collagen, fillers, implants, augmentations, prosthesis, skin graph
  • Treatment will be delayed in clients with a history of recent sun exposure (or who are visibly tanned)
  • Botox, fillers or any other such aesthetic treatment

 

Note of Caution:

  • Clients who have severely darkened skin or unrealistic expectations should not have treatments, as this may lead to disappointment.
  • If using products containing irritants or strong actives – including, but not limited to, light sensitizing medication, Roaccutane, Accutane (or generics) and other acne treatments – one should wait at least 3 – 6 months before having treatments.
  • Grey/ blonde hair cannot be removed or reduced easily with laser or IPL.
  • Clients with active acne cannot have invasive treatments.
  • Hormone imbalance may interfere with the results of treatment, especially with conditions such as Melasma, acne, excessive hair growth, and/ or hyperpigmentation.
  • External factors (such as stress, illness, climate change, hormone imbalance, change in diet) may adversely affect results.

 

Before Treatment:

Client to ensure that none of the following activities or health conditions apply within this period.

  • 3-6 months before:

    • discontinued any light sensitizing medications, treatment or medication for acne
    • discontinued breast feeding
    • pregnancy
  • 2-4 weeks before

    • Discontinue irritants or strong products. These include, but are not limited to products containing Vitamin A, Benzoyl Peroxide, AHA’s, BHA’s, Hydroquinone, Glycolic acids etc.
    • Limit exposure strong light (e.g. fluorescent or blue light) and sunlight; this includes tanning.
    • Clients should not have any cosmetic/ aesthetic/ beauty procedures performed 2-4 weeks prior to treatment (except those treatments done at The Laser Loft). It is the client’s responsibility to inform the therapist if they have had such procedures done. These include, but are not limited to: Peels, Resurfacing, Microdermabrasion, Microneedling, Dermapen, Laser, IPL, Light therapies Facials, Waxing, Bleaching, Threading, Sugaring, Electrical beauty treatments and all other procedures to the treatment area.
  • 1-2 Days before

    • Clients on anti-coagulants may experience increased bleeding. Consult your Doctor regarding discontinuation if necessary.
    • Use only mild products on the skin and refrain from exfoliating
    • Shave area to be treated 1 day before undergoing Laser Hair Removal. Do not shave on the day of treatment.
    • Drink lots of water if undergoing slimming treatments
  • On the day of treatment

    • If sensitive to the slight stinging sensation, clients may choose pain medication and/ topical anesthetic as recommended by a medical professional. For minimally invasive treatments an antibacterial cream, pain killers, creamy cleanser and aqueous cream may be suggested by your pharmacist or doctor.
    • Exercise caution if using anti-inflammatories as this may increase the tendency to bleed and reduce the efficacy of treatment..
    • Always consult with a trained medical professional before using any form of medication – including those mentioned above.
    • Do not apply any products, cosmetics or deodorant to areas that will be treated as this may interfere with the treatment and/ cause infection.
    • Do not shave the treatment area on the day of the treatment as this may cause extreme sensitivity.
    • Avoid using hot water or abrasive products immediately before or after treatment or until redness subsides.
    • Avoid excessive heat or sweating (e.g. gym/ sauna) for 24 hours or until redness subsides (excludes slimming treatments).
    • PLEASE INFORM YOUR THERAPIST IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO TOPICAL ANAESTHETIC OR INGREDIENTS USED IN THE TREATMENTS/ PRODUCTS. IF UNSURE PLEASE ENQUIRE ABOUT CONTENTS AND INGREDIENTS.
  • What to Expect During a Minimally Invasive Treatment:

    • Meticulous skin preparation is important to decrease the risk of superficial skin infections.
    • Treatment area is washed with a gentle cleanser and topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area(s) for 20 to 30 minutes
    • The device is disinfected and prepared
    • Anesthetic is removed with alcohol prep immediately before the procedure.
    • Most clients experience mild to moderate pain and discomfort during the procedure.
    • Clients will commonly experience all the signs of inflammation (which may feel upsetting). These include but are not limited to reddening, swelling, bleeding, pain, heat/ burning sensation, temporary bruising and crusting. This may persist for a few days after treatment. Depending on the clients immune and healing response these side effects may persist longer. This is normal and may become more severe before it subsides.
    • Remember the aim of the treatment is to induce the bodies inflammation reaction in order to stimulate repair and healing.
  • After Treatment: Post Procedure Recommendations:

    • Please Note: Clients will commonly experience all the signs of inflammation (which may feel upsetting). These include but are not limited to reddening, swelling, bleeding, pain, heat/ burning sensation, temporary bruising and crusting. This may persist for a few days after treatment. Depending on the clients immune and healing response these side effects may persist longer. This is normal and may become more severe before it subsides.
    • For 24 hours:
      • Do not apply any products, cosmetics or deodorant to areas that have been treated as this may irritate the skin, the therapist has already applied a soothing post treatment gel or cream to the skin.
      • Avoid using hot water or abrasive products immediately until redness subsides.
      • Avoid excessive heat or sweating (e.g. gym/ sauna) for 24 hours or until redness subsides
    • After 24 hours: refrain from products or cleansers with highly active ingredients. A hypoallergenic moisturizing cream can be applied to the treatment regions 2 to 4 times daily for 2 to 3 days.
    • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturisers on treated areas for 3-4 days.
    • An antibacterial cream may be suggested by your pharmacist should any irritation persist after 48 hours (e.g. itching, fine pimples, redness, swelling etc.). Always consult a trained medical professional before using any form of medication including those mentioned above.
    • The use of a mild sunblock SPF 50 is imperative
    • Application of makeup may be resumed 1-2 days after the procedure (only when bleeding, swelling and bruising have healed completely). Skin care products with highly active ingredients can be resumed in 7 days (only when all traces of skin erythema/ redness have resolved completely).
