Treatments – Bio-Microneedling Spicule Peel

A spicule peel works through a combination of microneedling and the delivery of specialized spicules infused with beneficial ingredients.

How it works:

1. Natural Microneedling Action: The treatment begins with a special massaging technique which introduces the spicules into the skin. These spicules are small, needle-like structures derived from natural sources like marine sponges, which create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the skin’s natural healing response, triggering collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin are essential for maintaining skin structure, elasticity, and firmness.
2. Spicule Delivery: The spicules are infused with active ingredients such as vitamins, peptides, and hyaluronic acid.
3. Enhanced Absorption: The spicules act as carriers for these active ingredients, delivering them deep into the skin where they can exert their effects. This enhances the absorption of these ingredients compared to topical application alone, as the spicules help penetrate the skin’s barrier.
4. Stimulation of Collagen and Elastin: The combination of microneedling and spicule delivery promotes a significant increase in collagen and elastin production. This helps improve skin firmness, texture, and overall appearance over time.
5. Exfoliation: Spicules also provide a mild exfoliating effect. This helps remove dead skin cells from the surface, revealing smoother, fresher skin underneath.

How to Prepare for your Treatment:

Because peels work by removing a layer of skin, any treatments that leave your skin more sensitive can lead to discomfort or other complications. Treatments to avoid include:

• Facial Treatments: Electrolysis/ Laser treatments/ Chemical peels
• Waxing/ Tweezing
• Products with AHA’s, BHA’s, glycolic acid, retinol, irritants, strong acids

What to expect:

• During the procedure:
  • Your therapist will apply a barrier gel to the sensitive areas of the skin.
  • The liquid peel is then massaged over the surface over the face for 5-15minutes
  • The skin can become quite hot, sensitive and may tingle or sting a bit – this is normal and a sign it’s working.
  • At the end of the allotted time the peel will be washed off.
  • The treated area should not be washed again for at least 12 hours.

• After the procedure:
  • Use only products provided and a sunscreen of SPF 50 for the first 5 days.
  • Redness, heat, excessive dryness, tight feeling, stinging, prickling and itching may occur for 24-72 hours after the treatment.
  • You may apply the soothing gel provided to calm these effect
  • Visible peeling may persist for up to 5 days (depending on the condition of your skin)

• Side Effects:
  • Swelling, redness, itching, drying out of the skin, flaking, frosting, peeling and temporary darkening.
  • When used for the treatment of acne and scars, it can also cause the temporary increase in the number of spots. This is because the process opens up the pores releasing the acne causing bacteria thus leading to a sudden increase in acne. However, this is not a serious matter to worry about as the acne soon disappears.
